I tried to save some money by getting this version instead of the guardian angel brand. I wish that I haven't. Everyone is right about the paint job. It is awful. The paint is bubbling off and has many sharp edges. My husband had to sand it down and repaint it because I was worried about my son's safety. I am also very disappointed that it isn't very high so you can't open your window all of the way because the kid can just climb over. You have to rig you window so that it can't open but maybe half way. It is alright, but if I had to do it over I would just spend the extra bucks and do it right.

Air King 20-Inch 2,140 CFM 3-Speed Box Fan #9723 Review

Air King 20-Inch 2,140 CFM 3-Speed Box Fan #9723
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have just recently bought this fan, based on my experience with my old fan that had propeller blades identical to depicted on all published images associated with this fan model. This shape of the propeller (with blades similar to elephant ears) is contributing to higher airflow, at the same RPM, vs. shape of propeller with blade looking like rabbit ears, and which is lately used on majority of inexpensive box fans sold under brand names Lasko or others.

To my surprise, the fan that arrived per my order, while having on the box a correct model number and image as on this web page, has propeller identical to less expensive Lasko brand box fans.

Lasko 20" Premium Box Fan 3-SPEED
In fact, Air King is subsidiary of Lasko, as I discovered while contacting the Air King.
In short, this fan went through a typical to current times "cost reduction reengineering" by someone who has no clue about air dynamics of propellers. As a result, the fan is noisier than before because it has to rotate faster, due to the new shape of its propeller blades, to produce a similar airflow, and is no different from all other box fans on the market, but is a twice as much expensive.
Do not waste your money. Note that I was told by customer service of the company that, from now on, this fan model will have the same propeller as supplied with Lasko brand fans. The company "didn't have a time" to replace this fan's marketing images. In addition, I found that warranty period on the fan has been reduced from 3 years to just 1 year.

Friedrich XQ05M10 Review

(More customer reviews)
I purchased this window air conditioner because I wanted a quiet unit for a small bedroom. The keyword is "quiet", and this unit was supposedly one of the most quiet small units available.
The good part. The unit is very quiet on the outside. This is a good unit if you do not wish to disturb your neighbors. It also makes little or no "water splashing" sounds, which is common in window units.
The bad part: It has characteristics that it should not have at this price. First, the thermostat has a loud "click" that is annoying each time it turns the compressor on or off.
Second, the unit has, in my opinion, an engineering flaw. If there is high humidity, water not only drips off the cooling fins (which is normal), but is also drawn into the air stream. The fan blows the air at high speed through a styrofoam air passage and into the room. Water droplets in the airstream hit the styrofoam at high speed, which creates a loud and annoying "pinging" sound. The intensity and pitch of the "pinging" is a function of humidity and blower speed. The pinging noise decreases, and eventually disappears, as the unit reduces the humidity in the room. If the humidity is high and the outside temperature is not too warm (common in Connecticut), the compressor will remain off for a sufficient time for humidity to return into the room. When the compressor cycles on to again cool the room, the pinging will resume until the humidity in the room is again reduced. This causes an annoying noise pattern that I find unacceptable for sleeping. There is no pinging if there is low humidity.
Third, the unit has a loud low frequency harmonic when the compressor first comes on. This sound tends to vanish after the compressor has run for several minutes.
And fourth, the quality control is not what it should be at this price. The centrifugal (squirrel-cage) fan is made of plastic, and half of one of its blades (ribs) was broken and missing.
Lastly, my emails and complaint letter to customer service were ignored.

Swiss Tech BodyGard 5-in-1 Multi-Function Emergency Tool with Key Ring Review

Swiss Tech BodyGard 5-in-1 Multi-Function Emergency Tool with Key Ring
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Was in a very bad car accident on freeway in Feb 09. I had all front end damage and airbags went off the whole shabang. Very frightening. My car traveled across all lanes of the freeway and slammed into the brick wall on right shoulder. I was so shaken up but my adrenaline was pumping, smoke was everywhere in the car and I was afraid it was going to catch on fire, I tried to open my door but couldn't, I had been carrying the Swiss-tech BodyGard 5 in 1 on me for about a year. Sort of bulky on my set of car keys and I thought, when am I ever going to use this? I paid the $15 for it and at that moment when I reached for it (the keys were still in ignition)I was praying it would work. I pressed it up against the glass of the drivers side and POW the glass exploded and broke a gigantic hole. I cleared the rest away with my hand and climbed out the driver's window. I can attest to say that this product worked and I am so happy I had it on me and am happy to be alive.

PRIME-LINE (SLIDE-CO) U 9982 WINDOW LOCK WHITE PK/2 Review

PRIME-LINE (SLIDE-CO) U 9982 WINDOW LOCK WHITE PK/2
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
A locksmith recommended this as an additional lock for sliding side-to-side windows. It's better in case of an emergency as you tighten and loosen it by hand, without a key that can get lost. It's also good for childproofing.
To intall, simply close movable panel, attach lock to track edge next to movable panel(can be either vertical or horizontal - bottom, side or top track), turn thumbscrew with pliers to tighten. For venting position, place 2" from closed panel and tighten thumbscrew.
This particular model has a smooth top as the screw has less of an angle, so it may not work on windows that don't have much of a track edge (1/4 inch or less). There is a similar model in hardware stores with ridges on the top and with the screw at more of an angle, which works better on shallow tracks (unfortunately I don't have the model or maker).
Measurements for this lock: width of opening at bottom for track 1/4 inch (6 mm), height of opening 7/16" (11 mm), width 1" (25 mm).
That said, this manufacturer offers this lock in aluminum 4 packs (U-9819), white 4-packs (U-9823), aluminum 2-packs (U-9980), Black 2 packs (U-9981) and this one, white 2-packs (U-9982).

GE 45117 Deluxe Wireless Door Alarm Review

GE 45117 Deluxe Wireless Door Alarm
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this alarm for 2 months now and just ordered a second for the back door. The door alarm is VERY loud and piercing. I would think a burglar would not bother entering a home if this alarm was set off. If you want to use the Home mode (so that it sounds off right away when the door is opened), you have a choice of selecting "chime" or "alarm." For the Home mode using "alarm" you do have to activate it with your 4 digit code but you do not need to punch in your code if you're using "chime" for Home mode.
When you set it to "Away" mode, you just need to enter your 4 digit code and leave within 45 seconds. When you come home, you have 30 seconds to enter your code to deactivate the alarm.

36" x 9 ft. Mirror Privacy Window Film Review

36 x 9 ft. Mirror Privacy Window Film
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, I read all of the installation tips for all of the window films here on Amazon. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to share your tips.
I trimmed the pieces to fit the windows and took the scraps and practiced applying the film on a smaller window to get a feel for the material. Good idea as when the film creases, the metallic material can flake off leaving a clear line in the film. The film must be handled very flat or only allow smooth curving.
On to the large pieces. Two windows 28" by 48". I thought to myself that I will never be able to do this alone. Decided to leave the clear liner on entirely instead of peeling most or all of it off while on the work table.
I instead taped the film on the excess top edge, liner and all, in the proper orientation and alignment, onto the window frame at every 6" to insure good attachment before pulling the clear liner down. Sprayed the window. Then I cautiously began to peel down the clear liner from the top on the left and right corners while spraying the window and between the film and clear liner. Work very slowly at the first top foot to keep the film from creasing and make sure the tape holds the film up.
The key to the entire operation is to work very slowly and plan ahead.
It worked so much better than I had feared.
How the product works. One of the best products I've ever purchased, impressed enough to write my first review. Location is a home office on the north east side by the windows. The film cuts glare a great deal, easier to read the LCD monitors. Much cooler as it cuts down on the intensity of the morning sun. Light transmission might be reduced by about 25%. The darker that it is inside the house and the brighter it is outside results in more of the mirror effect. The optical clarity looking outside is reduced a bit but gets better as the adhesive on the film cures. So much better than drawing the curtains to be able to read.

FastCap HOD-DOUBLE Handle On Demand Review

FastCap HOD-DOUBLE Handle On Demand
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
FastCap HOD-DOUBLE Handle On Demand
Our deck has a 1.5" thick, 32" square clear acrylic floor panel that is flush with the decking. That panel lets light through to the basement window below it. To remove that heavy panel for periodic cleaning, I bought two of these HODs. Handle On Demand is actually a pretty good name, because they made lifting the 50 lb. acrylic (plastic) utterly simple. The rubber suction pads left no marks, even on something as scratch-prone as plastic.
Each HOD comes in a study cardboard box that can be used to store it when not in use and to keep the tool clean. For the first time, my wife can safely lift the glass table-tops from our living room tables so she can clean underneath.
Things to consider:
- If you're frequently moving things such as big pieces of plate glass, consider buying professional grade vacuum cups, as they typically have greater capacity than this tool. E.g., do a Google Shopping search on: vacuum cup
- This type of vacuum cup tool is designed to lift things with a flat surface. If lifting curved items, such as a car windshield, this isn't the right tool. For examples of the type of tool to use in that case, Google Shopping search on: double swivel vacuum cups
- This is the least expensive lifting tool of this type you're likely to find. I.e., professional versions of this tool have much stronger aluminum handles, but are significantly more costly. To see more expensive lifters, search Amazon on: double vacuum cupIf you don't need a heavy-duty lifter, these sturdy HODs are a terrific bargain and work very well.

SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air Cooler Review

SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air Cooler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, this is NOT an air conditioner. If you expect your room to be freezing cold, this is not the product for you. It's a COOLER, and it does its job very well. It works by evaporating water. Try soaking a T-shirt, wringing it out, and putting it on wet to get the effect. It doesn't work very well in humid areas, but it works GREAT where the air is dry.
I'm in southern California, where the humidity varies pretty widely. I place the cooler six or eight feet from my chair, and on the hottest days I'm quite comfortable.
Benefits:
* it's about 1/5 the cost of an air conditioner
* operating expense is a fraction of the cost of air conditioning
* neat features! (timer, sleep function, etc.)
* remote control
Drawbacks:
* it's not freezing cold like air conditioning.

Versatile, lightweight, and economical, this evaporative air cooler easily rolls from room to room for use anywhere in the home or office. Unlike a fan that blows hot air and more energy efficient than an air conditioner, the appliance uses water to cool a personal space up to 12 degrees lower than the ambient temperature. The air cooler works by endothermic reaction (a reaction that consumes heat). The unit sucks air through a wick saturated with water; as the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. A cool air stream then gets blown out the front of the unit through oscillating louvers for even distribution.
The appliance can also be used as just a fan or a humidifier when temperature is not an issue. Easily change the settings with the included remote control. The unit provides an air flow of 23 feet per second, a water-consumption rate of 0.6 to 0.7 liters per hour, and a 10-liter water-tank capacity. Other details include a nylon and photocatalystic filter, three air speeds, a sleep mode, and a timer that can be set from a half hour to seven-and-a-half hours. Though perfect for use in dry climates, please note that the appliance does not work very effectively in areas with high humidity since it utilizes water to cool. The 60-watt air cooler measures 12 by 16 by 25 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

I have five fans throughout the house, and this is by far the worst. It makes a loud noise even on the lowest setting, and on high blows less air than my other 20" box fans. I have not used the thermostat setting because it's so noisy it would wake me up with it cutting on and off. Until now, I have been very pleased with the noise and performance of the Lasko fans I own -- maybe I got a lemon. How disappointed am I? I'm online right now to buy a replacement for this brand new fan.
