(More customer reviews)This does what it says. I will start with the dialing the phones part since this was my main concern when I ordered. Set is easy if you follow the directions. I put in my cell phone number, my brother in law who is a cop, and my neighbors number along with a couple of more, and this system was ringing my cell phone within a second of being set off. I then let it keep going and it dialed everyone perfect. You can turn it off via your cell phone, listen in own the system, talk via the system and it comes with a card that you can put in your wallet to help you remember the codes. The only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is b/c the remote control chain for my key ring broke.(not the remote, just the chain) For a unmonitored system and at less than a hundred when I bought it, this works great. If you have a home with two doors, then this will work. I put the door monitor on one door, and the motion detector in the room with the other door, and both have been working for over 3 months without having to change the batteries. Love mine, just wish it came with 2 remotes but the keypad is easy enough to use. Want a nice inexpensive nonmonitored system, this should do you great.

For anyone else who isn't challenged this is a great system that gives you quite a few options if you consider all the devices that are compatible.
It took me about 2 hours from start to finish to install the telephone, power, and about 12 wireless detection devices. I purchased at safemart and they do support the device as well as being very helpful, I highly recommend.
This can sync up with your thermostat, lighting, internet monitoring...etc.
Instead of paying [...]$ a month through Brinks/ADT/Gaurdian you can get independent monitoring which is exactly the same. I highly recommend this and feel confident with my purchase.

(More customer reviews)I installed the whole system - doors, motion sensor and extra siren. I bought the second siren because I did not think that the sound level was adequate. Even with two sirens working, and one mounted with only window glass and the outside, you still cannot hear it from even a short distance away. The alarm system is loud enough for the inside of the house, but it will not allert a neighbor, which was a feature that I was looking for. Other than that, the system works as advertised and is ease to set up and install.

AAS 600 Wireless Home Security Alarm Kit Pet Immune DIY (R) Review

(More customer reviews)I did not want to spend $30/month on a monitored system that only includes two door sensors and one motion detector. By comparison, a wireless system might only cost $30/YEAR in batteries and replacement double sided tape. But up until now, it seems like none of the DIY systems out there are expandable enough to do everything I need them to do on a moderate size house (2500 SF). AAS appears to have finally filled that void in the marketplace with a programmable, customizable, and interestingly expandable system that does almost everything a homeowner would want it to do.
I purchased the AAS 600 Pet Immune system, which included an ample supply of door/window sensors and pet friendly motion detectors. It took me an afternoon to set up (mostly due to me playing with the sensors and planning where I wanted to put things). So far, it's better than I expected. Programming is EASY. The instructions are okay (I had no issues). I feel I need to add some helpful information here that I didn't read elsewhere when I was deciding whether to make the purchase:
1.The sirens don't need to be connected to the system. You can make it a silent alarm (dialing your phone). Or you can just make it flash a silent alert on its display when a zone is triggered (which is GREAT for quietly testing the system - no need to bother neighbors, or the family). Also, all of the sensors have small diode lights so you can see they're functioning properly while you work with them.
2.The motion detectors I received take two standard alkaline AA batteries. The door/window sensors take a smaller ALKALINE battery about half the length of AAA size ("Vantt" 23A, 12V). The smoke detector takes a standard rectangular 9V alkaline battery. Battery access is EASY. There is a place to put a screwdriver to pry open the units, but I found it easy to do with hand pressure (the plastic pieces still fit snuggly). I have no idea how long the batteries will last.
3. My kit came with four key fobs which can arm/disarm the house system as if it were a standard car alarm. So if you don't want the hassle of punching in a code to disarm the system, you can treat your house like a car. But this feature is OPTIONAL and it can be disabled if you want (say you lose a key fob). ALSO, the instruction manual indicates that the system can monitor for unknown devices using its airwaves and will sound an alert (in case of tampering or interference).
4. The door/window sensors do not need to be in contact in order for the alarm system to work. That is, the sensors send a signal only when detecting a "change". So if you have a door jamb that isn't flush with the door (like all of my doors), don't panic! It will still work. Just install them off-set. The alarm system can still be armed and then the sensor will work when the door moves the magnet past the sensor on the jamb. You can also off-set the sensors on your windows so that the windows can still be opened a crack without setting off the alarm. And I was able to install the magnet in several orientations with respect to the sensor, even with a bit of a gap.
5. I'm still testing the range, but it seems to be pretty darn good. It's definitely better than our in-home WIFI system. Right now, I'm installing the keypad at one end of the house. If I find that the farthest sensors can't reach, I'm absolutely certain that I can install the keypad near the center of the house and get perfect all-around reception.
6. It has convenient quick buttons for arming the system when you are HOME (i.e. motion detectors are ignored) and when you are AWAY (i.e. no sensors are ignored).
7. These sensors are smaller than I expected. When I saw the size of the UPS box, I was horrified thinking that it couldn't possible include everything I ordered. But I'm really happy with the size of the things - not as obtrusive as I thought they would be.
8. I haven't had to use customer service for troubleshooting, but I do have to say that their shipping department rocks! I ordered during the early evening (west coast time) and was amazed to get a shipping confirmation number only two hours later that night! Somebody was working late!
I wish this company the best of luck. They are obviously trying hard to be very competitive in the DIY home security market and I think they're off to a great start.

Rating the unit-
Set-up = A. easy to read and follow instructions

a).Transmitters are physically large in relation to their function/operation. They are easy to spot by intuders.
b). base station. Alarm signal is loud enough to be a
nuisance. Perhaps it was designed to incapacitate intruders through laughter.
c). Sensitivity = F
I placed the 2 sensors in logical locations and "broke into" my own house with the system armed. I assumed that the intruder would come during the day. Any intruder with half a brain would see the sensors - they have a big red LED on the front.
Sadly, I was able to get by the sensors and gain access to all of the house by using very slow deliberate movements. It bears mentioning that I am 6'5" 250 lbs and that I moved within 5' of the front of one of the sensors without setting off the alarm.
Once I had decided to return the unit, I started moving more naturally to see what the threshold was for me to be detected.
I was not impressed, to say the least.
It is true that it would be hard to leave the house carrying
a TV or a sofa but intruders easily could have walked off with small valuables /jewelry/cash. In fact, without installation of a third sensor they could have opened the garage door and carried 1/2 of the first floor.
Unless your prospective intruders are remarkably clumsy, or ride (remarkably clumsy) elephants, there is no way this system would detect them.

AAS 300 Wireless Home Security Alarm System Kit DIY (R) Review

(More customer reviews)(Delailah is my wife's name) I moved from Scottsdale (upper end area in Arizona) to Victorville, California (federal prison, lower end type town) because of a great job offer. I am married and have 3 young children. I did not want to hire a commercial home alarm company or sign up for a service. The last time we did this and I moved ealier than expected, I paid a $600 penalty to buy-out of the contract with the alarm company (the big one with blue signs that look like little stop signs).
So I did a lot of online research. I am a Harvard-trained physician so I am very particular and careful. Though obviously there is no perfect system, the AAS 300 Wireless Home Security Alarm System seemed to offer the most bang for the buck.
It has many of the features of expensive professionally-installed systems. Here is a summary:
1. The components are reliable, robust, and well-packaged.
2. You can easily expand the system by buying additional sensors, detectors, etc. tax-free and with no shipping costs directly from the company (website included in instructions).
3. I have read the complaints about numbering the remotes and I believe they are unfounded. If you read the instructions carefully and understand the system, you will understand why there are certain numbers dedicated for certain types of sensors/detectors.
4. Read the instructions 2 times BEFORE starting set-up.
5. Lay all the parts out on a table and take your time. You will see the door/window sensor are assigned certain numbers while motion and glass break sensors are assigned different numbers. This allows the system to keep track of sensors that should be on when you are at home, and sensors that should only be on when you are not at home - so the system will NOT respond to motion detectors while you are at home. (You would activate the "Home" rather than "Away" button). Otherwise, when you got up in the night to get a drink of water, you would set off the motion detector and trigger the alarm. When you press "Away" the motion detectors are recognized.
6. After you assign each sensor to the alarm system, you then install them at each door and window. i.e. Sensor 01 Front Door, Sensor 02 Kitchen Window, Sensor 03, Girl's Bedroom, etc. Type the numbers and assigned areas out and tape the printout to your main system's keypad. When the alarm is triggered you will know which area has been breached.
7. There is a back up battery in case electrical power is shut off. The loud alarm will still function without electricity. In fact, my alarm system went off. I went home to find out that the electrical company had shut off electrical power to the neighborhood for maintenance/repair. So I believe the system is designed to alarm when it detects that electrical power has been cut off.
8. When programming your system, I would NOT connect your sirens like the instructions tell you to. Do that LAST as if you accidentally turn them on while programming all your equipment, you will find out the hard way that they are VERY LOUD AND EAR-PIERCING (PERFECT to scare burglars but painful when 2 feet away and aimed directly at your ear).
9. There is a strobe light that turns on to further scare off would-be intruders. The strobe unit also has a siren sound.
10. The burglar could unplug your main siren, but the strobe light/siren unit would serve as a backup to continue making a sound. If you want, you could order several of these and scatter them throughout the house, hiding some behind the bed, etc. The burglar would be confused and probably woult not take time to hunt down each one and unplug.
11. The remote controls are encased in a beautiful pearl white case, simlar to the paint jobs on certain Lexus vehicles. The remote allows you to activate Away, Home, and Panic modes.
12. I ordered a dedicated Panic button remote for my kids. It has a BIG RED button that they can run to and press to activate the alarm. We keep this Panic remote at home at all times (the other remotes are on our key chains - they have 4 buttons and the kids might not know which little button is the panic button on the standard remote).
13. The system can call up to six telephone numbers when the alarm is activated. It was easy to program and it works. I programmed 2 cell phones and 2 land lines and it sequentially called all 4 numbers. It will keep calling until you deactivate remotely by phone (see instructions).
14. There is even a way to call out from the alarm system utilizing wireless communication, but you have to get a chip and a wireless service. I did not bother with this.
15. You can link the system to a smoke and gas detector alarm as well.
16. You can get pet-friendly motion detectors so your pets do not activate the alarm.
17. You can set up so the alarm will go off if the phone line is cut/interrupted or of another device is operating on the same frequency. (I did not do this because I live in a duplex and do not want the neighbor complaining if the phone service gets cut off during a storm (for example), but if I were in a stand-alone house with a large yard, I definitely would activate this feature).
NOTE: THE MOTION DETECTORS SENSE HEAT, AND I HAD SEVERAL FALSE ALARMS WHEN THE HEATER TURNED ON, CAUSING HOT AIR TO BLOW IN THE SENSING ZONE OF THE MOTION DETECTOR. SOLUTIONS: 1. EITHER SHUT HEATER OFF WHEN LEAVING HOUSE 2. IF YOU NEED TO HAVE THE HEATER ON (i.e. SUB-FREEZING TEMPERATURES TO PREVENT PLUMBING LINES FROM FREEZING, CRACKING, AND LEAKING) THEN SHUT THE MOTION DETECTOR SWITCHES OFF (SWITCH ON SIDE OF ACTUAL MOTION DETECTOR) 3. OR YOU CAN HIT "HOME" INSTEAD OF "AWAY" MODE (EVEN THOUGH YOU AREA LEAVING THE HOUSE) AND THE MOTION DETECTORS WILL NOT SENSE THE HEAT FROM THE HEATER - BUT YOU LOSE PROTECTION HERE BECAUSE IF AN INTRUDER BREAKS THE GLASS AND DOES NOT ACTUALLY SIDE A WINDOW FRAME OPEN THEN HE BYPASSES YOUR ALARM SYSTEM. LIKEWISE, I WOULD NOT PUT MOTION DETECTOR IN THE GARAGE AS IT MIGHT SENSE HEAT AS IT BUILDS UP DURING THE SUMMER, TRIGGERING A FALSE ALARM.
REDUNDANT LAYERS OF PROTECTION:
1. If any window or door is opened, the alarm turns on. This is your FIRST LAYER OF PROTECTION.
2. The sensor only activates the alarm if the window is opened. If the window is broken and the intruder enters WITHOUT sliding the window frame open, the sensor will NOT activate the alarm. THAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE MOTION DETECTOR. It will be your SECOND LAYER OF PROTECTION. The movement of the intruder will activate the alarm.
4. You need to place motion detectors strategically to cover all major zones in your property/house.
TWO CRITIQUES:
1. The glass break sensor that I purchased separately was a disaster. While programming it something happened to the alarm system. Even when it was OFF (DISARMED) it would suddenly go off. The alarm system indicated the glass had been broken. Even after unplugging (deactivating) the glass break sensor, the alarm system was stuck in this mode of thinking that the glass had been broken and kept alarming EVEN WHEN DISARMED. I had to deprogram ALL THE SENSORS and reprogram them. As I did this, I found it very touchy. Pressing the wrong button while re-programming each sensor on the doors, windows, and the motion detectors caused the alarm system to "jam" again and keep alarming even when DISARMED. I had to re-program the system about 11 times. Not only did I have to clear all the sensors, I had to RESET the system to the FACTORY SETTINGS and I lost all my programming data. When I meticulously focused on reprogramming, I finally got it right - except I did not have the glass detector programmed any longer. I am returning this unit and obtaining 2 more motion detectors to replace it. SUGGESTION: DO NOT USE THE REMOTES TO RE-PROGRAM THE ALARM SYSTEM SENSORS IF YOU HAVE TO ERASE THE SENSORS FROM MEMORY. IF YOU DO AND PRESS THE WRONG BUTTON ON THE REMOTE, THE ALARM SYSTEM MAY GET STUCK IN A MODE AND KEEP ALARMING EVEN WHEN UNPLUGGED AND EVEN WHEN DISARMED (If this happens, turn the alarm OFF - the switch is inside the key pad unit, found through the little rectangular hole at the bottom). WHEN DOING THIS, OF COURSE UNPLUG ALL THE SIRENS (NOISE-MAKERS) UNLESS YOU WANT TO HAVE HEARING DAMAGE. RE-PROGRAM ONLY USING THE KEYPAD ON THE MAIN UNIT.
Because I had to reset it to factory settings, I had to reprogram all 4 remotes, all the sensors, the time-delays, my personal 4-digit pass code, and the auto-dialed phone numbers. It was very frustrating, but in the end I got it to work. Plan on spending 4 to 8 hours to fix the system if it gets "jammed" like mine did.
2. The delay time for the alarm to activate sirens and strobe lights once it is triggered by a sensor can be set from 1 to 30 minutes. If you program a 60 second delay time, this is good for when you return to the house. You open the front door and you have 60 seconds to shut the alarm off by punching your 4-digit code in. However, even in the "Home" or "Panic" modes, when the alarm is activated there will still be a 60-second delay before the loud sirens and strobe lights are turned on by the system. If you are at home and someone opens the window, you probably would want the alarm to make noise and flash bright lights immediately and NOT wait 60 seconds. You can set the time to 0 seconds in which case the siren and strobe lights would sound right away. The trade-off here would be that you would have to use your remote to shut off the alarm BEFORE your open the front door. If you forget, the alarm will go off as soon as your open the door (even in the "Away" mode).
In addition to this alarm system, you can add your own deterrants.
Buy a chime/noise maker that detects motion when someone is at your front your back door.

(More customer reviews)This is a wonderful system that allow for peace of mind when leaving the premises. I bought the complete system with alarm and dialer. The systems come linked together, so if someone sets off the door/windows alarms or the motion detector, the dialer will begin calling the pre-programmed numbers with your custom pre-recorded message. So far it has worked very well. The built in alarm is unbearably loud, so be careful if you set it off by accident. Be sure you have the remote handy as you do NOT want to get near it to disarm it. It has the ability to trip the phone dialer based on the sensors by themselves, as a whole, or by the main security system. The dialer can be set so that you can hear the numbers being dialed, or you can opt to make it completely silent. I have mine silent as I don't want someone finding it and pulling the phone cord out. Besides, the alarm is enough to scare anyone off. The motion detector is very touchy however, and it will trip the system with slight movement. In my opinion that is a good thing. At night I set it so that only the doors and windows are alarmed, and the motion detector is off. This is a handy feature. I've purchased many security devices lately and this one is certainly the best. If you combine this with an in home motion detection webcam such as the Linksys WVC54GC you can not only be alerted via phone, but also get pictures sent to your cell phone, send streaming media to your cell phone, or simply hop onto the web and view your house in real time with no computer needed. This is my setup and it gives you an amazing piece of mind. Just be sure to mount everything out of sight!

(More customer reviews)I called Brinks new home security company, BroadView. They told me for $100 they would install 2 door sensors and 2 window sensors. Any additional sensors would be $75 a piece. Additionally I would pay $40 a month for their service and sign a 3 year contract. Thats $1500!!! If the system broke or messed up I would have to pay a BroadView tech to come out and fix it. WTF? Ok, so their commercials are great. I called ADT. I mean they have to be better, right? NO! Same deal.
You can't put a price on your families safety but are those companies services that great? If a sensor is triggered, they call your house. No sh*& sherlock! Thats going to help me out a lot! I could have called 911 on my own, and that's a free call.
Ok, the SKYLINK is Awesome. It was terribly simple to set up and install. I didn't use the switchboard that calls your phone since I don't use a land line. Each item came with everything I needed to install it. I tricked out my entire house with a sensor on each window and door. At night I just hit my keyring and hear the beeb when it arms. I set the sensor up in the hallway, but had to take it down because the dog kept triggering it and sending me flying around the house with a loaded gun. Other than that, there have been no false alarms. The alarm is LOUD. My eardrums pulse and head throbs even from the other side of the house. It is ridiculous loud. There is no way and intruder will continue to rob your house with that thing going off. The alarm is run buy a battery so it can be ripped off the wall or the power can be cut, and it will continue to work. I couldn't really hear it outside the house but inside.... You can buy and additional alarm to put outside but your neighbors will hate you for testing it or accidentally tripping on your way out the window.
I have zero regrets about purchasing Skylink and highly recommend it.

Skylink SC-100 Security System Deluxe Kit Review

(More customer reviews)After my house was broken into I wanted to get an alarm but didn't want to pay any companies or commit to any monitoring contracts. This fit the bill perfectly. It works great once you plan around some caveats.
Pros: very simple operation. I've only had it two weeks but seems reliable so far. Easy to set up. The remote works well, but it's too bulky for me to carry around. So I just use a PIN code when I come and ago. I love the flexibility of this system. It's easy to add sensors or accessories. Compared to a pro alarm, the stuff is very cheap but built decently. It doesn't quite have the build quality "feel" of a pro system but it's simple and for the money works well. I love how it's all wireless. I"m a renter and don't want to drill holes or pull wire in walls and this is perfect.
Cons: The control panel (SC-001), PIN pad and siren are all one unit. If a crook breaks in and smashes it to bits during the 30 seconds on a delayed entry alarm it will be worthless. Or even if the siren is going off, cover it tightly with your hand, rip it off the wall and take it to the bathroom sink and submerge it in water or otherwise disable it. In other words, there's a single failure point that's not well protected. Especially if you mount it by your door for easy ripping off the wall as the crooks come in. In professional systems, the control unit is usually in a metal box in a closet so if someone smashes the keypad it will still go off. In pro systems the siren is separate as well.
Now here's how you can plan your system to mitigate the cons. Here's what to buy: Buy an extra key pad and at least one extra siren unit. They're only $30 each. Next, get creative where you hide the control panel. Put it in a closet or behind your washer and dryer or some place hard to get to. Some palace where it will take more than 30 seconds to destroy the control panel. Better yet, I am going to buy an inexpensive metal key box. It's a locking metal box that you can hang keys in. I found one on a big auction site for $15. I plan to drill a hole to poke the antenna out and another hole to run the power cord in. And some holes in the door so if the siren does go off, it can be heard. This will make it a little more like a pro system, in a locked metal box, preferably in a closet. Once the control box is secure, then set up one or more external sirens. I bought two. I put them on opposite sides of the house. Now if a bad guy breaks in, he has to find three sirens and smash them (control panel siren + 2 external ones). The sirens are very loud but I live on a noisy road and it's hard to hear the interior one from outside when traffic is going by. That's why I discreetly mounted one siren on the outside of a window on the front of the house. The other one is mounted on the outside of a window on the side of the house. I even wrapped one in black trash bad plastic to make it less obvious it's an alarm. You might even want to put electrical tape over the LED on the siren unit. Now you will have a system that's very difficult to defeat. Most crooks aren't going to want to hang around a house with 3 sirens going, not knowing it's it's monitored as well.
Some other thoughts: I didn't get a dialer because I don't have a land line and odds are burglars may cut the house phone lines anyway. But if you already have a landline, it couldn't hurt. The magnet contact sensors work well on the doors. The PIR (motion detector) works very well. The only problem is I have a cat and it might trip it. So I put a couple of the PIRs in closets. When I was burglarized, the first place they hit were the closets. Keep the closet doors closed and the cat won't set it off. I'm very careful to avoid false alarms because I don't want the neighbors hear it cry wolf from a false alarm. If you don't have pets, the PIRs will work great in the hallways or any rooms.
Wish list: separate key pad, controller box and siren units. I wish it would tell you if a sensor was "ready" like a pro system, but this would no doubt make the cost of the sensors much higher.
Plan around its shortcomings and this can be a 5 star system. I gave it 5 stars because it works well for what it is and is a great value for the money.

After doing a little research I found out that rather if you hire a professional security company or install your own alarm system, it is against the law to have a alarm system dial directly to the police or 911. They will not respond to a pre-recorded message. That is why any professional security company will always call you first before calling the police and that is the same thing that this system will do. It calls you (with your prerecorded message) than you call the police. You also need to contact your local police department to find out if the city you live in requires you to have a (ALARM PERMIT). It only cost an average of $25.00 a year. Without an (ALARM PERMIT), you can be find heavily.
The alarm is easy to install, easy to program and it has a number of great features. If by any chance, someone managed to get in your house with out setting off a door or window sensor, they still won't get passed the motion detectors. The alarm will sound off (which is very loud) and the system will continuously dial up to 6 phone numbers (people that you know) to call the police. If your phone line is cut the alarm will sound off. If someone tries to tamper with the system the alarm will sound off. If you are at home, it can be set to turn off the motion detectors and still arm the door/ window sensors so you can move about your house freely. There are a few other features for personal preference. All in all I think it is a very good system and would recommend it to anyone. AAS also offer a number of different size packages to meet your needs.

(More customer reviews)Hi everyone, i ordered the Skylink SC-100W (newer model) and received mine 2 days ago. I set it up yesterday. Since the system comes pre-set it only took me 30 minutes. The only thing i had to change was the passcode. The motion detector alone would have been enough for me as that thing is as sharp as a needle. Since i have no pets and no kids i have mine on high and it's great. The window/door sensors took a bit of playing around with but they're working fine (for now). I have my alarm on "Chime" mode because the siren is extremely loud, my ears were ringing all night after i had tested it. However i have great comfort knowing i can use the panic button on my keychain to activate the siren if i feel i'm in danger. It's so loud that my neighbours will hear it and will be calling 911 in no time. I had the alarm on all night and had no false alarms. It has only been 1 night but i am very happy with the system. I'm told this a newer model, i'm not quite sure how it differs from the Skylink SC 100 Deluxe Kit. If anybody could tell me the difference that would be great. All in all i'm very happy with the system and i'm giving it 4 stars because of how sharp the motion sensor is and because the siren is extremely loud. I sleep well at night....very well.

(More customer reviews)I live in a not so great apartment complex. I have lots of nice toys that would be very easy to hock at a pawn shop. I got worried everytime I left my apt that I'd come back to find the flimsy door kicked in and my goodies gone. I was able to install this in minutes. Two screws for the main unit and one screen for the motion sensor (mounted right above my door but out of reach to the average person. Now I can leave my place without worry.
Pro: Very easy to install, keychain remote means no running to the keypad.
Con: I found the working range of the remote to be about 30ft (through several walls though). Its loud but without an external siren I'm counting on my immediate next door neighbors to respond to the alarm before they disable it. Some of the setup menus are a little clumsy, but you only have to do it once.
I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
