I am a career firefighter/paramedic with seven years on the job. I have already used the knife several times on EMS calls. Four times I have used the oxygen wrench (we all know how the black tabs seem to get lost), and I have used the Zuess tool (belt cutter) and window punch on a couple of MVA's with extrication. Also used it on several trauma patients to expose them. Far superior to trauma shears. The knife is great for all around uses around the firehouse. Highly recommended.

Designed by knife maker and firefighter Rick Hinderer, the Gerber 22-41534 Hinderer Rescue Knife boasts a smart, user-friendly feature set that delivers reliable handling in the toughest situations. A true rescue tool, this knife showcases a strong, sharp blade with a serrated edge, a hook cutter, and an ergonomic grip that's easy to hold while wearing gloves.
All the Essentials You Need for Fire Rescue at Your FingertipsWhen you need one tool for a rescue, bank on the Gerber 22-41534 Hinderer Rescue Knife. Rick Hinderer, a firefighter and knife designer, conceived and designed this knife based on real-life experiences, giving it some of the most important features a firefighter will need while keeping the size small and convenient.
The knife has a 3.5-inch, sharp serrated blade that safely slices through seatbelts, and it will cut through just about anything you'll encounter in the field. The knife also has a hook cutter, which lets you cut through clothing without cutting the person wearing it. Other convenient features include a window punch and an oxygen tank valve opener.
The knife is crafted with an attention to detail: it includes large features and mechanisms so that it can be used while wearing turnout gloves without problems. The ergonomic handle keeps your hand comfortable while you work.
Gerber's History of IngenuitySavvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that contributed to Gerber's emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon's Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular, Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.
For more than half a century, Gerber Legendary Blades has been helping people fend for themselves. Gerber designs popular, dependable tools and knives along with other outdoor gear that helps users accomplish whatever tasks they may be faced with, promoting the lost art of self-reliance.
