Good looking bench, nice woodgrain. Tripled the drawer space in my garage/shop instantly. Nicer and much faster than building a bench myself.
Truck freight called me the night before delivery and scheduled appt. with a short 2 hour window which was nice, I didn't have to wait around all day as required for the cable company.
Truck pulled up in front of my house and a burly but nice delivery guy unloaded it by himself and wheeled it dircetly into my garage. This was about the best packed shipment I have ever received, tons of styrofoam.
Instructions were clear, only found four small mistakes (ex: doesn't mention you need a Phillips screw driver to install drawer knobs, big deal). One thing to note however, it says 60" overall width....doesn't take into account the end vise which adds nearly a foot.
Takes about an hour to assemble. Hex head screws and European style connectors mate up the panels. Every piece has a white circular label making the identification of parts very easy. I had 4mm and 5mm hex wrenches with extra long handles which allowed me to grab a couple of extra turns on the screws which helped tighten everything down solid.
Criticism: one drawer side dado did not match up for the drawer bottom and required tweaking. All drawer sides have through dados but the good news is that a year ago I didn't know what a 'through dado' was.
My one serious criticism is that there is no back panel included. I drove over to Home Depot and bought a 2'X 4' piece of 1/4" birch plywood and cut it to fit the back and provide some dust protection for the drawers. You need to put a spacer/off set on each side before putting on the back so that there is room for the drawers to close.
I had some levelers which I had taken off a metal bench with silver dollar size circular UHMW ends that I was able to screw into the legs of the bench which aids in moving the bench around the floor and back against the wall. No leveling required however, it solid on the ground.
After waxing it the bench looks more like a nice piece of furniture than a work bench. I am being very careful with it, putting cardboard on the top so I don't put the first scratch on it. Maybe that will end soon and I will treat it like a real work bench. It is very nice to have a place for everything and will be nicer still when I learn to keep everything in its place.
One more KEWL thing, there was only one set of assembly instructions and they were in English. I didn't have to throw away two thirds of the instructions. Thank you Grizzly, I appreciated that small thing.
Don't worry about the birch finish, it is very nice. I have been procrastinating mounting my bench power tools. After setting up this bench I got some 3/4" birch plywood (Home Depot again) and have mounted my buffer, scroll saw, etc with matching wood. I may not know much about woodworking yet, but my shop looks good.
Thanks Grizzly, this was a nice addition to my shop.
