Raised Panel Router Bit - Ogee Horizontal 2-1/2'' Diameter x 5/8'' High Review
Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)This bit makes high quality cuts. My 2-1/4 hp router had no trouble raising panels in 3-4 passes with the rpm lowered to 10,000. Cleanest, smoothest cuts I have seen. Very little sanding is required.
When looking for a raised panel bit ask yourself these questions...
1. Does it have a bearing? You will need a bearing if you want ro raise arch-top panels. This bit has a bearing.
2. Does it have a back-cutter? Back cutters will ensure a 1/4" tongue on the panel, and cut front and back in one operation. The other nice thing about a back-cutter is it sets the raised panel flush with the rail and stiles. This bit does not have a back-cutter. Rockler, Amana, and CMT make raised panel bits with back cutters. Freud's have back cutters, but no bearing.
3. How wide of a bit do you want? The width of the bit will determine the reveal on your cabinet doors. This bit is a 2-1/2" diameter, creating a relatively narrow 1-1/8" reveal. I prefer the 3-1/2" bits for a more dramatic look. Amana makes a 3-3/8" bit with bearing and back-cutter. CMT makes a 3-1/2" bit with bearing and back-cutter. Just make sure the plate in your router table has a hole large enough to accomodate these large bits.
