(More customer reviews)I received the unit on Oct 2009 and it failed at the end of Dec 2009.
It took a long time to get a replacement unit (from China).
The outdoor unit was replaced (labor not covered) and it worked same as the 1st one.
The problem occurs when the system runs in High Power mode, or when coming out of defrost mode, or when a call for a large temperature change is made.
The system power surges to 3 to 4 KW when it tries to heat or cool the house rapidly.
It's rated power is only 2.6 KW. It's over-load protection normally will kick-in at about 3.6 KW or the 230 line 10A circuit breaker will pop open.
To avoid these shut-downs, I monitor the power use and have alarms set at 2KW & 2.65KW. I try to shut down the Sanyo, before the power exceeds 3KW.
Other than the power surge problem, the system works great. Heating and cooling
of our small home is VERY inexpensive now. With the price of heating oil fills,
I think this system has paid for itself at this point.
We do use back-up oil heat, when the temperatures are less than 10deg F.
If you want more info about system performance, search on 'Sanyo 24KHS72 AC/HP DIY'.
Because of this power surge 'bug', I can not recommend this model (24KHS72).
If, the bug is cured someday, I'll come back and edit this review.
