The outlet sealers work very well and recommended by my energy auditor that I recently had done. Just be sure to also get the outlet plugs to stop the draft from coming through the plug itself.

MD Building Products 4283 Shrink & Seal Indoor Window Kits Review

MD Building Products 4283 Shrink and Seal Indoor Window Kits
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have a basement family room that was very drafty and cold. You could actually feel the cold coming off of the windows even with the blinds and curtains. In order to be comfortable we would have to turn the heat up to 75. We can't afford to replace the sliding door and windows right now so I found this at a local home improvement store and thought for less then $10 I'll give it a try.
It took me an hour to put up by myself. I highly recommend 2 people if possible. The directions on the box are easy to follow and are accurate in my opinion. Clean the entire door and frame thoroughly and make sure it's dry. Doing that will help the adhesive tape stick. You may have issues installing this if it is really cold too. The directions recommend about 40F I think. Don't rush when applying the plastic to the tape. Start in one corner and work over from there. It was easier for me to do the left side of the sliding door first then the right. The plastic doesn't have to be very tight across the door. When you heat it the excess will go away. If the plastic comes off the tape just press it back on. It's not supposed to stick too much right away just in case you need to adjust the plastic. When you start heating it, the adhesive will activate. Don't forget to keep an extra 2 inches of shrink past the tape. I guess you can figure out why...it shrinks. The directions said to hold the blow dryer a few inches from the plastic. My blow dryer must be extra hot because it was about 4 inches away and it made a hole in the top of the door. That being said, it may be a good idea to start further away and at the top just in case this happens to you. Don't hold the blow dryer on one spot for too long either. Once you start you'll realize it goes pretty quickly. The taping process took much longer then the actual shrinking. Also, if the plastic gets little wrinkles as you're shrinking, just go back over that spot and it will go away.
The plastic looks clear and you can't tell it's there unless you are up close to the door. We have 2 cats and 2 kids and it's been on for a month without any major issues. My oldest ripped it a little at the door handle so I had to patch it with the leftover shrink. I gave this 4 stars because I think the tape could have been a little better. Also, we cannot use our sliding door. I honestly didn't think about it until after it was on. There may be a way to put it on and still use it but we have other doors. I'll trade not using the door for a warmer family room and cheaper electric bill. I plan on using this again next year. I am going back to get the window kit. We are much more comfortable now and don't have to wear 5 layers just to watch TV.(smile) I recommend trying this product for those cold winter months.

Warp Brothers SK-54 Shrink Film Window Kit Review

Warp Brothers SK-54 Shrink Film Window Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I can safely say that I no longer fear death after my experience with Warp Brothers SK-38 18' Shrink-It Window Insulation Kit. I ordered two of these to seal off the drafty windows in my bedroom. Upon arrival, one of the plastic insulation sheets was ripped and the other one was so tightly clung by its folds that it ripped as we unfolded it. So much for a tight seal on the window.
Despite the rip, we were able to use one of the sheets over the window. The tape that comes with the kit (the kit, by the way, is a piece of saran wrap and some double-sided tape. But I knew that before buying it) didn't stick to our window so I had to heat it first. Then it was so sticky that I couldn't get the backing off. Eventually, though, I got the plastic in place and started to hair-dry the thing. Amazingly, it formed a really tight seal and effectively shrink-wrapped our window. We were impressed by that. We were not impressed by its ability to keep out the cold, however, as we immediately felt a draft again even with the plastic properly in place. While your milage may vary, the only increased warmth I felt was the searing rage I began to feel towards the Warp Brothers.
Buy this item if you think shrink-wrapping your window might be fun. If you want the room to be warmer, buy a space heater.

I bought this product to help with a large, drafty window. This product seemed easy to install and went up quickly. The plastic does seem thin and I first thought this would not be effective, but the window film made a huge difference in the room it was used. The directions were simple to follow and the window film does not distract from the normal appearance of the window when installed.

Every year I say I'm going to cover the windows and every year I don't. This year however I looked on Amazon and found the right product for the right price. I even got the nine pack which worked out well because I turned one sheet sideways and used it to cover two smaller kitchen windows.
I followed the directions and cleaned the surface once with cleaner and when I was ready to apply the tape I cleaned again with Alcohol. The first one was a little crooked (but still worked) but by the time I got to #4 it was smooth sailing.
I can feel them move slightly in the breeze so I know that they are keeping the cold out. I would definitely recommend this product.
ps I'm a not so young lady and I did it all by myself.

3M 2144W Indoor Patio Door Insulator Kit
Average Reviews:

A huge sheet of plastic comes in this package. HUGE. You almost need two people just to handle it. Package comes with a roll of tape too. I've insulated my patio door and noticed the change. Even bought a thermometer to measure the change. This stuff works great.
The instructions are a bit...well...they could be better. Window tape goes around the patio door frame, the plastic is added, then the plastic is pressed against the tape. The theory is that the plastic and the tape make an air-tight seal and keep the cold drafts from entering your home.
One note: If your patio door doesn't have a space on the bottom for the tape, the instructions call for nailing a piece of wood to the floor and using that for the bottom. Not too sure about that idea. Check your patio door before ordering. All you need is a 1/2in space for the tape.

This product was very cheap, very thin plastic. "framing strips" are cardboard, and very thin cardboard at that. This will not hold up if you have any kind of winter weather. It's a great idea, and I would have paid more for actual wooden strips, and thicker plastic.

The tape is really pathetic. It shouldn't even be called tape.
If you're going to buy this product, save yourself endless frustration and buy some quality, heavy duty double-sided tape and don't use the tape that comes in the box. While you're at it, you might as well buy some saran wrap and just completely forget about this horrific product.

Frost King V95H Stretch Window Kit 62-Inch by 210-Inch Review

Frost King V95H Stretch Window Kit 62-Inch by 210-Inch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great concept, but terrible implementation.
First off, the package contents are a large roll of many-folded plastic 210 inches long by 62 inches wide, which you cut to length. When you initially unfold it to half width, it still has one more fold that is near-to-impossible to get apart because of the plastic being so thin and stuck together. Another problem with the very thin plastic is that it tears easily. You have to be VERY careful when cutting that it doesn't run on you. Also, if you do not get it tight enough, any wind will pop it enough to tear it. Be careful you don't pull it too tight or it will tear, or pull the tape off the window frame.
The tape that comes with it is a narrow double-sided plastic tape that sticks to the plastic well, but not so well to anything else. I wasted an entire kit on one normal sized window using increasingly more drastic measures before coming up with the final procedure. I finally ended up washing the painted wooden window frame with soap, rinsing with plain water, drying them with paper towels, then using alcohol on another paper towel to remove any lingering traces of... well, anything, then letting them air-dry for an hour before attempting to get the tape to stick. They tell you to add extra tape to trouble areas. What they don't tell you is that every corner is a trouble area, in addition to those spots they mention. Basically, any time you have anything other that a straight line on a smooth surface you will want to reinforce it with more tape.
The final problem is stretching the plastic and attaching it to the tape, and what a problem that is. Follow the directions if you have lots of time to waste and a high threshold for anger and frustration. I won't say my way is the best way, but it worked better for me. Too bad it took so many windows to "perfect" it. The plastic will be cosmically attracted to the tape in the worst way, so don't peel the backing off of the sides and bottom until you are actually ready to attach the plastic to that particular portion. Attach the platic to the top strip of tape starting in the middle of the top edge of the plastic and SLOWLY working your way to the sides stretching and smoothing as you go. If you are really good and very lucky, it may only take you several tries as the plastic goes everywhere but where you want it to. Until you press it down, you can usually get the plastic to release from the tape.
NOTE: Everywhere that the tape has had something stuck to it and removed is a place it WILL FAIL to adhere properly in the future!
Once the top edge of the plastic is secure, remove the top few inches on each side of the backing. Here is where it gets tricky. Stretch the plastic side to side while pulling down from the top and carefully starting in the corners press the plastic to the tape using your thumbs while gripping the sides of the plastic with your remaining fingers. Once you get the hang of it, you can slowly work your way down the sides, peel the backing down a few more inches, stretch the plastic and attach it. Do your best, but there will be wrinkles. Small wrinkles can usually be stretched out on the next go, but big wrinkles means you have to VERY CAREFULLY pull the plastic away from the tape until past the problem point and try it again. When you get to the bottom, just continue as you have been, stretching and attaching the plastic to the tape.
If you do this in warm enough weather, have plenty of help, have very smooth and clean window frames, no wind either during the installation or after, no flora or fauna that might bump into it, and have extraordinary luck... well, it MIGHT work for you. It might even last a week.

Desperate to try and save a few bucks on my electric bill I thought I should at least give this product a try. I had no problem hanging the plastic. The double sided tape and plastic were very forgiving. My first window looks as good as the last one. You can barely tell it is there. I tried it out in one room at first to see how well it does. It works! I did the rest of my house after that. Well, I did leave a couple of windows uncovered just in case the weather warmed up. Once this stuff is up it is an all or nothing deal, that window is out of commision until you pull the plastic down. I did have a smooth surface available around each window which does help the tape adhere, might be a consideration if you have heavily textured walls. I don't know how much paint will be ripped off of the walls come spring. It is worth the risk.
