(More customer reviews)My exterior door has a "kerf style" seal for the door to shut against but the door's gap on the inside is a little larger than I'd like and it seemed like a slight bit of air was leaking through so I was hoping for some kind of simple solution to fill the door jamb gap and try and seal it up a little better.
I've tried buying some rubber stripping from the hardware store for the door jamb part of the door (other MD and Frost King. None worked well, too thick in some places where the door smashes it or won't close. Most of the foam seals I saw were way too thick. Other seals would detach and the adhesive just wasn't very good.
I really thought I found the right seal and originally gave this a 5 star review. If it in the gap perfectly, it stayed on perfect for a few days, the adhesive seemed really good. Only thing I could say was that these seals are pretty unforgiving and would tear easily if you put it on crooked and tried to adjust it so buying extras just in case is a must, at least for me.
After a few weeks, not really any extreme cold or heat, although the door wasn't even hitting the tape it started to slide in places and looked like a dang black squiggily snake was on the door jamb and being a perfectionist it bugged the hell out of me. I tried some other seals, Frost King and, MD foam tape and seals ALL NOT VERY GOOD and none really seemed to work as permanent solutions.
What I DID end up doing is going to Home Depot and buying a Frost King Door Jamb Seal Kit that has a good quality rubber seal attached to aluminum that comes in a couple of different finishes that screws on the outside of the door. This allowed me to still continue to keep the original kerf style compression seal but also add another air barrier on the outside. The aluminum outer door jamb door seals will need to be cut with tin snips or some people say they use a hack saw but it was well worth it and now finally a permanent solution! Of course install it with the door shut and be careful not to get cut after cutting the aluminum.
