36 in. Heavy Duty High Volume 2 Speed Belt Drive Whole House Fan Review

36 in. Heavy Duty High Volume 2 Speed Belt Drive Whole House Fan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my same review as the 30" version of this fan, they are both identical except for the size of course.
One star off for the cheap louvers, however there are upgraded aluminum extruded avaliable for a few dollars more. Now this is not a whisper quiet fan, it is however much quieter then the unit The Home Depot sells. You will know this fan is running so avoid placement near family/living/bedrooms. This unit comes with a high and low switch in decora style and have found it to be of good quality. Other then a set or two of louvers that got damaged during shipping I've had zero problems with all the units I have installed, and knock on wood have not had to replace a single motor. I find the motor supplied with this fan should last 10-15 years depending on how much you run the fan. I would highly avoid DIYers attempting an installation unless you have a good concept of framing and electrical as you will need to remove a joist to install this fan, the only exception would be if you got a set of truss style louvers and had an additional attic access hole large enough to fit this fan. The packaging the louvers come with have a template to trace onto the ceiling so you know where to cut, my advice when cutting out the template is to cheat inward on the line about 1/8th of an inch so you don't accidentally cut the hole too big. IMO the louver template is just sightly too big. I also recommended a spring round 12 hr timer which can be ganged together with the high/low switch if you know what you are doing. Overall a fantastic product, I'll continue to buy this fan for years to come. For the money it can't be beat.

PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER Review

PORTABLE AIR CONDITIONER
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Although we have come around to liking this product we were initally disappointed in what was sold as a unit that did not need draining. It does need to be drained or it will automatically shut off after an hour and a half usage. We have it on top of a bowl so that it can drain and thus stay on. It cools the room well but is more work than we expected. Just know what you are buying-an air conditioner that is not self draining!

Wow. I just got a nasty surprise.
If you accidentally push in the toggle switch when turning on the fan, it can short out, send sparks a few feet away and shock the crap out of you.
That was seriously unpleasant.

Unistar 4-in-1 Swamp Cooler with Ionic Air Purifier, DF268. Review

Unistar 4-in-1 Swamp Cooler with Ionic Air Purifier, DF268.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
pros:
- saves you in energy bills since it can cool the room instead of using the ac
- filters are washable
- the included remote gives you controls even in bed
- the 30 min interval timer feature is great specially when it gets too cold at night
cons:
- the ionizer feature is more of a display light than anything
- needs a weekly maintenance. water mineral builds up at the bottom, if you let it sit for more than a week, taking it out posts a problem.
- if you even find the time to actually clean the insides of the fan and and take out the dusts and water deposits, it would take a lot of patients since the machine wasn't designed for easy disassemble. (you'll need a thin long screw driver to take out some of the screws.)
bottom line:
machine is great as an alternative humidifier and room fan. It is a high maintenance machine make sure you clean it every week or two.

Holmes HASF2120 20-Inch Aerodynamic Oscillating Power Stand Fan Review

Holmes HASF2120 20-Inch Aerodynamic Oscillating Power Stand Fan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It was a nice fan while it lasted. But then it got bumped and two of the plastic legs slightly cracked where they attach to the middle. It doesn't look broken, but will no longer stand up straight. I don't think they should support such a heavy fan with such flimsy plastic legs that get brittle and break after you've had it a while.
I've contacted the company. If they reply and offer to replace the legs, I will update this review.

The Lasko 3300 20 inch Wind Machine, is a great fan. I have been using them in my office, warehouse, home and in an underground parking lot at the apartment I live in (and manage), for more than a decade. Using them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, they normally last 3 to 10 years each. I do wish there was a discount in shipping, when ordering in quantity.

Holmes HAOF910-UC Blizzard Table Fan with Removable Grill Review

Holmes HAOF910-UC Blizzard Table Fan with Removable Grill
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Even though there was no image for this fan, we liked the floor Blizzard so much I ordered this one, anyway, because of the removable grill. This little fan can move air! Boy, can it move air; and it's going to be a fantastic tool to remove smoke from the house when the wood stove back-drafts this winter....and a wonder at drying herbs in the garden shed....BUT, this thing is so loud you have to shout over it even when it's on the low setting. It's like having a jet engine in the house! So, if you want to move air in a big way, I'd highly recommend it. But, if you want a fan for the bedroom for a nice little breeze while you sleep, keep looking.

Room-to-Room Fan - Circulate Cold or Warm Air from Room to Room Review

Room-to-Room Fan - Circulate Cold or Warm Air from Room to Room
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to move warm air from our LR to the rest of the when the woodstove is going. It gets too hot in the room and this does help. It's not the perfect solution, but it was cheaper than putting another doorway in just yet. It does require cutting a hole in the wall (obviously) so if you're not handy, keep that in mind. It's much quieter than the doorway fan we have. I'd recommend it.

Sunbeam SSF1600RC-U 16-Inch 3-Speed Oscillating Stand Fan with Remote Control Review

Sunbeam SSF1600RC-U 16-Inch 3-Speed Oscillating Stand Fan with Remote Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I also bought this product from a retail store. It does have three speeds, they are: loud, louder, and loudest. The tilt feature is practically useless because the fan can't support itself and always falls to the 'down' position. (I guess I'll have to look for that hidden screw.) As if all this wasn't bad enough, when you try to turn the fan, it usually results in the fan cage separating from the motor shaft. To fix it requires opening the cage, removing the fan blades, screwing the plastic wing nut back on, and putting the whole thing back together. I had completed the tedious process several times but this time but this last time I waited a while before fixing it. I didn't realize the motor was still on when the fan cage 'broke' and now the motor is fried. When I turn it on, it only makes it's beep sound. All in all, this fan has been terrible. Luckily for me I only paid around $35 for this worthless thing and not some $50 that Amazon wants for it.

Attic Aire Whole House Fans - 54301 24In. W/Shut Wholehouse Fan Review

Attic Aire Whole House Fans - 54301 24In. W/Shut Wholehouse Fan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've put in three whole house fans over the years. I installed this one a few days ago and am very pleased. I deviated from the instructions in two ways to reduce noise. First, I never follow the advice to put the fan in the middle of the house. I put it as far away from the master bedroom (no children) and around as many corners as possible. In this case, after finding I had an unusually tight-fitting garage door I put it in the ceiling of the garage. My door fits so tightly I can see no light around any edge, so the fan will produce a vacuum in the garage and pull through the door to the house if blocked open. That put it even farther from the MBR and around more corners than anywhere else in the house. Second, I stapled dark gray foam pipe insulation, the kind available in 6' lengths at HD or Lowe's, around the bottom and outside edge of the wooden fan frame. I cut one of the lengths of 1" insulation in half lengthwise and wrapped it over the bottom and up onto the side, maybe an inch, all around the base of the fan's frame. That prevented direct contact between the fan's box frame and any ceiling joist. I installed lumber between the joists under the frame and the fan sits on that (plus the teeny normal contact point on the center joist). I did not bolt the fan down (noise), but just put 1x4 lumber around the edge to keep it from going sideways. The 1x4 touched the foam also, on the sides. Since the fans pulls itself down as it pushes air up, floating the fan within the confines of the 1x4s around the edges holds it place nicely. With a separate 12-hour timer I can go to be with it running and it shuts off after things cool off. The fan is quiet enough that you can talk in a normal voice in the garage while it is running on high speed. By the way, it makes no difference where you install this thing as far as effectiveness goes. A vacuum in the house is a vacuum in the house. It will pull nicely from wherever you open a window or door. Installation took 5 1/2 hours plus about 1 1/2 for the timer because I had to fish an insulated wall and because I bought the wrong kind of electric box for the timer. If you use a timer, buy an electric box for "old work." It is made to install in the sheetrock, not to be nailed to a stud and will go much faster. Be sure to block open any door that can slam before you turn the fan on. Doors will slam shut HARD and maybe break something. I thought this fan might be too small, but it's not. When they tell you it's good for a 1500 sq ft house, it doesn't really mean anything. This house is considerably bigger than that. The size of fan has more to do with how many doors and windows you can open and still get enough air movement. With this one, you can get a very gentle breeze with one door plus one sliding glass door (we have no bugs). I really like my foam invention. This fan is noticeably quieter than my previous fans. You will need a helper to install the shutter. You can't hold it up and install a screw at the same time; at least I can't.

Lakewood LDF1209A-WM Oscillating Table Fan Review

Lakewood LDF1209A-WM Oscillating Table Fan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I know, you get what you pay for, but this is more like the little fan that could.
Do not start this fan on high or it will just sit there confused. You have to start on low, wait until it gets comfortable, and then move onto medium. When the fan has developed enough forward motion, then you might be able to negotiate high. This does not always work due to the wobble and unreliability of it and as for the oscillating - right now, neither of us are too confident in this particular function so we will leave that for another day.
My suggestion, spend a little bit more and read the other reviews. There are good fans out there; this just does not appear to be the best that the company has to offer.

Ozeri Ultra 42" Adjustable Oscillating Tower Fan - with Noiseless Airflow Technology Review

Ozeri Ultra 42 Adjustable Oscillating Tower Fan - with Noiseless Airflow Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
By default I'm a skeptic. Especially when it comes to products I'm not familiar with. I'm not the type to just go out and buy something for the sake of buying it. I have to thoroughly research or contemplate why I'm spending my hard earned cash on the product that I'm purchasing. I didn't think I would NEED a fan let alone a nicer tower fan versus the conventional fans.
Let me just say that after decades of use of a conventional fan this tower fan is amazing. The airflow is superb and the design is excellent. I wasn't so sure about the height of the fan being at 42' but I've adjusted it to its lowest level so it's not too prominent in the living room. Sweeps the room very nicely and the timer is a perfect addition to the product. The product literally FEELS solid. I have to have a product that FEELS solid. It can't creak or anything that makes it feel like its cheaply made.
Impressed and happy with it.

Lakewood LFF2009A-GM 20-Inch Power Fan
Average Reviews:

This is a great fan, but there is a newer nicer version.
It is:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037W4YDM
Lakewood LFF2009C-GM 20-Inch Power Fan
The low speed is quieter than a typical box fan and the high speed blows more air than a typical box fan.
I am using this as a desk fan in my office cube.
It works very well because it is very quiet on the low speed.
Large fan blades do not have to move as quickly as a small fan blade to move a lot of air, so this larger fan is actually much quieter than a small fan, for the same amount of air movement.
I will definitely buy more of these in the future.
It is even Made in the USA.
The manuallly pivoting design is also nice.
