Tripp Lite TRAVELER Protect It Surge Protector/Suppressor 2 outlets (2 Transformers) For Laptop Use, Direct Plug-In 1050 Joules Review

Basically it's the best mov surge protector for a laptop. mov's are little disks in the surge protector that litterally pop when a surge spike happens. If you can handle the small weight difference the white isoblok 2-0 is better. It is a lower joule rating but offers a 0 sec. clamp time and lower voltage threshold. A spike only lasts around 1ns and a surge 3 ns. This adapter is ok at under 1ns. It is at 150 volts though and the isoblock is at 140 volts. Remember that not all power out of a socket is at 120 volts (110 in Japan). Either way you would need a new adapter every year just to be safe as the mov's are only worth 1 spike. Its far cheaper than buying a new laptop.

I spent some time looking for an outlet that I could attach to my workbench. I wanted it to be both rugged have the outlets run in a strip (not a box). I found this model, attached it with two screws, and now its a permanent fixture on my workbench just where I need it.

Tripp Lite IB4-/220 IsPRar Ultra Surge outlet 6ft Cord 330 Joules Review

Tripp Lite IB4-/220 IsPRar Ultra Surge outlet 6ft Cord 330 Joules

This is a 5 star company that produces, possibly, the best surge protectors on the market today. I bought this unit for my work in South America (In Peru there are huge electrical fluctuations - I have seen a spike of 420 volt!).
With this Isobar, my computers always have been protected.
When I had a problem (I spilt coffee on the unit) the on/off light switch went out, but the surge protector continued. When I came back the USA and called about repairing it, the response was ... "don't worry, we will send you a new one this week." Wow! I expected a hassle, but I got excellent customer service. I would definitely buy another product from the company.
You pay more, but you truly get more. Highly recommended.

Targus Travel Power Outlets with Surge Protection (APS03US) Review

Targus Travel Power Outlets with Surge Protection (APS03US)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I compared this item with the Belkin Mini Surge Protector with USB Charger. While the Targus doesn't have USB ports, I can get those anywhere: my laptop, my iGo, or any cheap AC-to-USB converter. The Belkin has a 360-swivel plug, but it doesn't fold away, so it's bulkier and more cumbersome than the Targus. (The Belkin that does have a fold-away plug has only 2 outlets.
So why 4 outlets if you only need 2 at a time (laptop and charger)? Think airport: the traveler crouched in against the wall has taken the last available outlet at your gate. You have your Targus Travel Power Outlets with Surge Protection, and now there are outlets available for them, 2 of your devices, and an extra for anyone who may need it. (Sales opportunities can happen anywhere. Be prepared.) Then, think hotel: you need to charge your cell, work cell, and laptop, but you'd like to be able to see. You can plug in the wall lamp as well with this baby. THEN, think presentation: recharge your cell/PDA while giving your presentation with the laptop and projector, and you can plug in the device you removed from the outlet you needed.
Oh, did I mention it beats the bulky power strip you have been carrying in your bag for the last 3 years?

APC P1T 120V Portable Surge Protector Review

APC P1T 120V Portable Surge Protector

I bought one of these after seeing them in the APC catalog.
It's a handy thing: LEDs let you know if the ground is working
as well as if the surge arrest is functioning.
The only thing that could be improved is that it's a Wart and
takes up about as much space as a transformer; this becomes
an issue if sharing a plug with someone else at the coffee
shop.
APC makes good stuff and the $25k warranty is nice as well.

Belkin F9H220-TVL Travel Surge Protector with Hidden Swivel Plug Review

Belkin F9H220-TVL Travel Surge Protector with Hidden Swivel Plug
Average Reviews:

Don't let the "220" part of the model number fool you: this is for North American 110/120 voltage only, NOT for the rest of the world's 220/240 voltage. Also, it doesn't protect both Ethernet and modem cables simultaneously, it will protect one or the other only.
Other than the aforementioned caveats, it's a handy gadget and worth carrying to protect your electronics when travelling within the US.

Belkin Mini Surge Protector Dual USB Charger Review

Belkin Mini Surge Protector Dual USB Charger
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been searching for a product that can extend the outlet on my bathroom for the electrical products that I use. I finally came across this Belkin mini surge protector and features:
- 3 AC power outlets
- 2 USB outlets ONLY for charging (not data transfer) at 5V / 500mA at each port
- Surge protection on all 5 outlets
- 918 Joules Energy Dissipation
- 125V / 15A / 1,875W Continuous Duty Electrical Rating
- 36,000A Maximum Spike Current
- Lifetime Warranty on product
- USD75,0000.00 connected equipment warranty
- 360 degree rotating plug lockable into 4 possible positions
Simple, elegant design in a smooth plastic casing of white and light grey colour. Once plugged, the green LED light will indicate if the power source is grounded.
The box comes with one USB to mini-USB cable to get you started in charging your USB devices as well.
DO NOT throw the prong cover that initially comes attached to the surge protector prong. As the manual states (for those who still care to read the User Manual these days), you can use this plastic prong cover to help further balance the device against any surface. You do this by inserting the plastic prong cover on the bottom of the surge device via a small notch. Also, the plastic cover is handy to use when traveling. Before dumping the surge protector along with your other devices, cover the prongs to prevent it from scratching other objects.
The prongs can be rotated 360 degrees loosely. However, there are 4 positions that enable you to lock it so it doesn't flail along clumsily in any direction. You do this by pressing into the rear a "release button". It's not a raised button, but a flat plastic portion that you have to press hard in order to release the lock. It's quite difficult (at least with the model I received) at first and feels like I'm going to break the plastic button. But I guess if this is normal then it can be construed as a safety measure so it doesn't easily rotate with a simple touch.
IMPROVEMENTS:
The term "mini" is subjective. It isn't really that compact as I would assume from seeing the photo. It is small, yes. However, as a surge protector that can take 3 AC and 2 USB outlets, I will give Belkin the benefit of naming it a mini device.
I would STRONGLY prefer the re-design of the spacing on the AC outlets by allowing larger plugs connected side-by-side. As it is right now, only normal AC plugs and not block-style plugs are allowed without loosing all three outlets. So my proposal is to delete the middle AC outlet and move it to the end-cap of the device (opposite to the 2 USB outlets). As of now, there is nothing there so rather than cramp the 3 AC plugs, then move the third at the end and thus allowing for block-style plugs to be used and still retaining the 3 AC functionality.
OVERALL:
I would not hesitate to recommend the purchase of this surge protection for compact spaces as well as travel purposes especially with the lifetime warranty and amount of protection is offers.
Take note of the selling price Amazon and the others are selling this at. It's ridiculous to see the selling price of this exact device can range anywhere from USD10 to USD30.
Lastly, BE AWARE of the SPECS so you know if the USB device you are plugging is capable of being charged.
