(More customer reviews)Before buying any UPS, do some homework. It's not as simple as reading the watts sticker on your computer. Get to know what volt-amps means and decide if you need lots of battery run time or not. I believe many people end up buying too much UPS capacity (which is fine if you can afford it) because mfgrs' "wizards" are not very accurate. This unit, with its fairly low rating, is fine for my needs:
My requirements are to protect my equipment from surges and sags, to give me enough time to save and shut down when the power fails, and to run my DSL modem and WiFi base station for a few hours off and on during an extended outage (we get hurricanes on Cape Cod). I do not need server-class UPS backup, meaning automated shutdown and lengthy run time.
This unit works great for all of the above. It would not run my iMac G4 for very long beyond an emergency shutdown, but that's fine in my case.
The supplied (and downloadable new versions) of Bulldog software are terrible, however. I did not downgrade the unit's star rating for that because you don't need it.
On my Mac, Bulldog only served to display annoying false warnings and would lose connection with the UPS whenever the computer sleeps. Don't even bother installing it.

Those days are long gone and now they try to get you to buy expense equipment that *includes* the surge suppressor. I've blown out a lot of suppressors over the years and that is all I want, in the cheapest package possible.
While I don't need the AC filter features that this unit offers, this *is* the cheapest thing that fulfills my needs. Buy several at one time to reduce the shipping costs per unit and these units are a steal.

(More customer reviews)While this is a good quality product that may be useful for PC, it is not a good unit for Mac. When the Mac goes into sleep mode the P7GT shuts down any peripherals plugged into the controlled outlets , this creates a small voltage surge on the USB line as the peripheral shuts down which immediately wakes the Mac back up.
In essence it creates a cycle that never lets the mac stay in sleep mode.

This has both surge suppression and noise filters. I ran the power and cable tv coax through it for my 42" plasma, and it cleaned up a lot of snow on the cable channels. The TV even switches channels faster, which I suspect is due to reduced noise.

Over the years I have come to trust APC with my computers and electronics and this time was no exception, especially considering the $50,000 lifetime proection included with the unit. There is not much else to say about the unit, so I will finish with pro's & con's.
Pros:
- Reasonable price for a reputable brand
- Includes $50,000 equipment guarantee
- 1700 joules protection rating
- Has coax & phone line proection for cable and satellite equipment
- Includes 6' coax cable and phone cord as well
Cons:
- Safety shutters built into each plug feel plasticy when plugging in new items
- Light weight, so it tends to not stay in place unless mounted

(More customer reviews)I bought 2 sets of Cyber Power 1090 surge protector because I had great experience with its UPS 800AVR units.
However, whenever I print anything on my Cannon MP830, my screen would wobble by very tiny amount. Its barely detectable but is definitely present. My 5-year old APC surge protector PER7 did not exhibit this problem.
This is not the same high quality build as CyberPower's UPS. If you want UPS I recommend CyberPower. If you want good surge protector with good line noise filtering then go with APC.

-They are easily wall mountable.
-They have 3 large AC block sockets. 2 of which are used for "always on" equipment.
-The off/on button is recessed. This is my favorite feature as it cannot be found on many other protectors. This prevents accidental turn off.
-The cord is plenty long.
-The plug is right angled.

Note that if you do mount a strip 'against the wall' leave at least one inch of clearance. There are many DC power supplies (cell phone chargers, drill chargers, etc.) that have a bulky transformer at the plug and will be wider than the strip.

This isn't the most powerful one I own (1,000 Joules protection is relatively good but not spectacular) but I'm not using it for delicate electronic equipment. I had an extension cord running from behind the couch so I could use that outlet for a fan and a couple of lamps. With the Tripp Lite TLP712 I don't have dangerous extension cords all over the place, I have use of that outlet and the things I plug into it are protected.
It does the job I bought it for just fine.

I just ordered one of these, and I thought I would pass along that this is the best surge protector APC offers with only 40v "let through" (most "good ones" are rated at 300V), also this one will "kill itself" if necessary to protect your equipment. Other protectors will loose their protection circuitry and keep your equipment connected. I have many stories from personal experience giving kudos to this company's products, but I gotta go.

(More customer reviews)Basically it's the best mov surge protector for a laptop. mov's are little disks in the surge protector that litterally pop when a surge spike happens. If you can handle the small weight difference the white isoblok 2-0 is better. It is a lower joule rating but offers a 0 sec. clamp time and lower voltage threshold. A spike only lasts around 1ns and a surge 3 ns. This adapter is ok at under 1ns. It is at 150 volts though and the isoblock is at 140 volts. Remember that not all power out of a socket is at 120 volts (110 in Japan). Either way you would need a new adapter every year just to be safe as the mov's are only worth 1 spike. Its far cheaper than buying a new laptop.
