(More customer reviews)We purchased the royal Sovereign ARP-4009 June 2008, used it last summer for about 3 months and didn't turn it on again until July of this year. It worked for about one week and stopped blowing cold air after that. The unit still turns on and produces air but it blows hot air. We realized that we had just missed the one-year Full Warranty period but the unit still qualifies for the Limited Five Year Warranty which the manufacture will replace the compressor (parts only). I looked up for Royal Sovereign's website for a service contact and they showed a total of 10 in California. I called two and were told by both that they do not service Royal Sovereign anymore. I called a 3rd repair shop which is approximately 45 miles from my house. I made an appointment and brought the unit in. They informed me after a week that there was a problem with the compressor and the condenser. Even though, the parts will be supplied by Royal Sovereign but their labor would cost $250. For the price, we could almost purchase a new portable air condition.
I don't understand how the unit would stop working after one year or to be exact, 3 months of usage. I am frustrated that Royal Sovereign does not have enough service locations which made it very difficult to compare price on the repair. The next closest repair shop to me is approximately 60+ miles away and a totally different direction from the first shop that gave me the estimate. And we only live 20 miles East of downtown Los Angeles!

It's definitely more expensive than a window air conditioner (probably at least double the cost); you're paying for appearance and convenience, not functionality. (It's easy to disconnect this unit and roll it away into a corner or closet.)
I bought two of these for two rooms with sliding casement windows that posed problems for window units -- and I didn't want to bother with installing and then removing bulky window units every season. One of the rooms is a very large bedroom with a cathedral ceiling, and the Frigidaire portable air conditioner has no problem keeping it cool. Your options for placing the unit are rather limited -- there is a somewhat flexible duct that must be run from the back of the unit to a window (or a hole through an exterior wall), and you also need a nearby electrical outlet, preferably on an isolated circuit.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit online about 1.5 yrs ago. The sleek design is cool as is the air it produces. The initial setup time was around 30mins (you must assemble the plastic hoses and mounts), but I managed to get it running within 10min this year. The product works as designed and keeps my living room/kitchen at a constant 73 degrees (easily 400sq ft). I have not emptied any water from the drip valve in the rear so maintenance isn't an issue. The system is a bit noisy and definitely heavy (does have wheels) but we are talking 12,000 BTU. I would recommend this product to a friend or family member.

It gets really hot, especially in the summer, and I also have a lot of electronic equipment(av receiver, Xbox 360, PS3, LCD tv, some halogen lamps, etc.) and to top that all off I am really hot natured. So I needed something to keep the room cool. This thing does it effortlessly. The temp. in my room used to climb up to 75ºF, now with the SoleusAir it stays at around 66-68ºF, just how I like it. On a side note, my central A/C went out last summer and it got up to 83ºF in my house, but the SoleusAir kept it at a cool 68ºF in my room. So you can count on it even under the most demanding loads. It also has a built-in heater as well and it heats as well as it cools. So this is really an all-in-one unit. The only downside(along with any other portable a/c unit) is that you must run 2 hoses(one exhaust, one intake) to a window. It comes with a window installation kit, but I live near a busy street so I can sometimes hear outside noise... but it's not too bad.
But I would highly recommend this product.

I still don't understand how this thing can decide to not trigger the air con while it is needed. Then suddently it may decide to do it... and depending on how you turned it on/off, its behaviour will change.
Just to say that the computer regulator for heater/air con is just not working decently !
A big mistake to have acquired this Soleus device.

Frigidaire FRA123PT1 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner with Remote Control Review

(More customer reviews)I am on my second one of these units in less than a month, both purchased from Amazon. The first one rarely achieved an air flow from the vent that was 62 F or below, which is the lowest setting you can put the unit on. Also, it arrived with a bent rod that prevented the removal of one of the three air filters for periodic necessary cleaning.
Amazon agred to replace it and pay for all the shipping. The new unit promplty arrived and was plugged in today. This one is even worse. The air coming out of the vent has yet to get down to 62 F, even though it has been running at full blast for six hours.
One other thing: the 640 square feet it is estimated to air condition is a $500.00 joke that is not funny. I am trying to air condition a 400 square foot INSULATED garage, and neither of this two units have come anywhere close to bringing it down to the target temp, despite running 24/7, full blast, at coldest setting.
This has been a really expensive and time-comsuming lesson to learn. I am thinking about sending this one back too, and asking for a 14,000 BTU Soleus instead, although the reviews on that unit are mixed.

WindChaser PACRWC 12,000 BTU Remote Controlled Portable Air Conditioner Review

(More customer reviews)We purchased this unit last year to help cool down our study room. The room is about 13' by 13', and can get really hot during summer - especially when all three computers in it are turned on. We use the unit only for cooling purpose, and this is the second summer we will be using it. I would say the biggest disappointment with the unit is the painful condensation removal.
Pros:
1. It is built with multiple functions - cooling, heating, ionizing, and dehumidifying. The control panel is fancy with lots of LED lights for indicating the operating status.

2. It reduces humidity quickly in cooling or dehumidifying mode. We live in New Jersey where the humidity is what makes the heat unbearable sometimes. The unit reduces the humidity level much faster than other dehumidifiers I have. You start feeling comfortable when the humidity level reduces, even though the temperature may not drop as fast.

Cons:
1. The condensation removal is a pain in the neck. The unit is advertised to be able to evaporize the condensation through the exhaust pipes. Unfortunately, we live in the area where this capability is inefficient - if it's ever working. The condensation tank gets filled up quickly. The drain outlet is on the back, and is too close to the ground to allow easy water removal. It is even impossible to install a condensation pump with such a low drain outlet. I ended up putting four bricks under the unit and attaching a vinyl tube to allow water draining from front. Fortunately, the unit still runs smoothly even when it stands on those bricks - it does not vibrate or make extra noise. I probably will add a condensation pump later so the unit can run continuously without interruption when the tank is full.

2. The cooling power is not impressive. I would expect it to cool the room much faster with the 12,000 BTU rating. In our case, the room temperature barely drops 1 degree (F) after more than half an hour of operating. Fortunately, the reduced humidity level makes you feel better even though the temperature is still high.

We ordered this NEW portable air conditioner from Air & Water, Inc. and when we finally received the item it was a USED air conditioner. The air intake panels were covered in a thick layer of dust which indicates it has had considerable use. There was also no documentation with this item...no owners manual, no warranty card, nothing. When we contacted this company, they refused to reimburse us for the $39.95 shipping charge we paid to have the item shipped to us, they also refused to cover the return shipping charge and they intend to charge us a 15% restocking fee which amounts to $59.85. This means we now have a choice of paying for a new air conditioner but keeping this used one which may or may not even work or pay $139.75 for absolutely nothing. In my opinion, this company is scamming people and should be prosecuted! BEWARE!

We bought this back in September and took it out again recently for the heater function.
Nicely designed unit that has a clean modern look. The display is a concealed LCD band that is simple and understandable without an overload information and meaningless statistics. Although easy to roll around, be sure to get help when lifting up above a foot. The window kit was good quality and overall setup was considerably easy. Just hookup the hoses to the kit and fit the kit snugly into the window opening.
Cools wonderfully. I use it specifically in the baby's room and occasionally in the study. The dual hose design helps with the energy efficiency and overall cooling or heating out. Both rooms are about 18x18 and this unit has no problem cooling down a 95F room to a comfortable temp in less than 30 mins. I'm surprised that the cooling throughput of this unit is actually 20%-30% faster than another 14000 BTU that I have. Nothing scientific but even my wife notices the significant difference.
The heating option is not for heavy duty heating but it works perfectly as a spot heater when you don't want to crank central heat up too much.
To sum it up, this is a surprisingly efficient unit albeit slightly bulky but gives great bang for the buck.

(More customer reviews)SO this unit works very well if no hotter than 82 degrees outside. If its hotter than 82 degrees the unit will only spit out 63 degree air. Which cools a little bit but does not make the cold by any means. I'm lucky if I can hold 73 degrees average room temp with another fan blowing. I have a instant read thermometer I used to test the unit. I have had it for about 2 months now. My office is about 210sq ft and in a basement (no direct sunlight). They advertise that this is a 12k BTU unit (its not) and that it can cool up to a 425sq ft room. It can't.
In dehumidifier basically dose not work until you install a condensation pump. The unit is advertised as "exhausts most or all condensate automatically except under extreme humidity situations" This is the case when the A/C is on but not the dehumidifier. I don't have a damp or wet basement by any means, however while in dehumidifier mode the condensation just does not exhaust like in A/C mode. Without the condensation pump, the unit will shut off after about an hour because "internal reservoir" is full. The reservoir holds about 20 ounces, and you need to go to the back of the unit to drain it. This is messy to do, due to the drain being right at floor level.
The unit itself was cheap compared to brand name, I paid $380 with free shipping. However now today was an exceptionally hot day and my unit isn't really cooling, i would have rather spend the extra $300 and purchased a brand name unit that works the way a typically AC would.

(More customer reviews)I wanted to put an evap cooler in our upstairs bedroom but the window where it would go was too narrow. I checked all the reviews and descriptions I could find on several different web sites and decided to go for this portable unit. It has large water capacity, easy to move, can use as a fan only, add ice for real cool air, easy to add water, is quiet enough we left it on one night while we slept. Fan force good, it really moves the air on "high". Haven't emptied it yet, we have had 100 degree weather so it has been on every day. The "humidity" controller basically just determines how much water flows over the filters. The unit does not cool the room like a window evap unit would, but I do recommend it to take the temperature down 15-20 degrees. I am very glad I purchased this product and if I needed another cooler I would get this one again. It actually isn't too bad to look at either.

I sincerely doubt that it will really cool a 450 sq ft area but it does a great job for my bedroom upstairs...which is all I was really concerned with. My bedroom measures 13' x 12' or 156 sq ft and it takes about an hour to get from 85° F to 69° F. Setting it up was a breeze. The only problem I had was with the window exhaust kit. The expandable PVC plastic window mount wasn't long enough to cover the entire height of my bedroom window...it's about 5 inches too short. I had to cover that space with a piece of plastic that I cut to fit and duct taped in place. One thing I don't like about this unit is the placement of the exhaust hose...it's in the back. Some units have it on the top of the unit so that you can place the unit almost flush against the wall. The back of my unit sticks out about a foot and a half from the wall which makes getting around it a slight pain in the rear...but hey, at least I'll be cool this summer :). Another con...it doesn't have oscilating louvers. The louvers are fixed and can't be adjusted up or down. There are lateral louvers behind the front grill that can be adjusted manually from side to side with a slider. Oh...and one more thing...it's pretty loud when the compressor is running. It takes some getting used to.

(More customer reviews)Let me explain what I think about this unit. I have 3500 square feet house in Central Florida and top of the line heat pump Central Air just installed a few years ago. All works perfect except one thing: I have to cool the entire house with it and at 4500 Watts in case of power down my diesel generator at 6500 Watts is just about running it when 1100 Watts refrigerator and lights are on at the same time. Another thing is Central Air conditioner will get you over 250 bucks electric bill during summer and this is when thermostat is set to only 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Now, I ordered this unit thinking it is going to be so-so portable that can subsidize cooling now and then. The unit came in UPS, it is about 84 lbs, has wheels, is very quiet, does wonders drying the air, very nice quality built and components, remote, digital thermostat, can be converted to auto drain with just additional hose if you really must, runs on 1100 Watts, and is pleasant to look at. At 9000 BTU it is very nice gizmo indeed - no vibrations, smooth working and very well made. That very same day I received it and run it for entire day, I ordered another one just like it. I hope that explains how good and useful this thing is. Get one if you need one and you will be happy you did. BTW, packaging for shipping was absolutely exemplary - this thing would have to be dropped from 2nd floor on concrete to get damaged in all that styrofoam and cartons. I am very happy with this purchase. Remote is also quite handy when you use it in the bedroom at night. Water tank that had to be emptied is actually good thing, because no worries about over flooding the unit, and you can distilled water for ironing or car battery if you ever need that. The conversion adapter for continues water drain is included if you need that. I am somehow puzzled with negative review posted under Alesia, because I went to this individual's "see my other reviews" and there were like a HUNDRED of portable units, all with the SAME REVIEW and all purchased on the SAME DAY. That is very strange indeed. It is either mistake or overdose. Anyway, I think this unit is working well and it is worth the money. I use it already for over a month and it is better then ever.
